Acceptable ID Documents for Driver License
NOTICE
Under the Federal Real ID Act, current Colorado residents completing an address change must provide TWO DOCUMENTS to prove residential address, in addition to a Driver License or ID card. (A parent's proof of address as indicated on their Driver License is acceptable as ONE proof of residency for a minor child under the age of 21.)
New Colorado residents must provide TWO DOCUMENTS for proof of residency, a state/county-certified (or original) birth certificate OR valid passport, and proof of Social Security Number. Proof of residency documents must include the applicant's name and physical address.

Documents to Prove Your Identity
For most services offered at this Express Driver's License Office, you must provide documentation of your full legal name, identity, age, and lawful presence in the United States. Proof of identification must be presented in a physical/printed form, not on an electronic device.
Listed below are some of the acceptable documents:
- Valid or expired Colorado Driver's License
- Valid or expired Colorado ID Card
- Out-of-state Driver's License with full middle name (valid or expired for less than one year)
- Out-of-state Driver's License with middle initial and certified state or county birth certificate or passport with full middles name (valid or expired for less than one year)
- Out-of-state ID Card with full middle name (valid or expired for less than one year)
- Out-of-state ID Card with middle initial and certified state or county original birth certificate or passport with full middle name (valid or expired for less than one year)
- Social Security Card
- U.S. Birth Certificate state or county issued, original or certified copy
- Valid military ID with full middle name
- Valid military ID with middle initial and certified state or county birth certificate or passport with full middle name
- Certification of Naturalization with a photo (20 years or less)
- Certification of Citizenship with a photo (20 years or less)
- Colorado Department of Corrections ID Card
- Federal Bureau of Prisons ID card
Out-of-State Transfers, will require the following:
- Two documents for proof of residency
- Proof of the applicant's social security number
AND
- State or county certified birth certificate (the original or certified copy) or valid passport (unexpired)
PLEASE NOTE
If your proof of name document is different from your current name, you must provide additional documentation to prove all name changes:
- Certified Marriage License: US County, State or Territory
- Certified Civil Union License
- Certified Divorce/Separation Decree
- Certified Court Ordered Name Change
(Church or foreign marriage certificates are not recognized/accepted.)
Documents to Prove Your Address

- Computer-generated bill from:
- Utility company
- Credit card company
- Doctor
- Hospital
- Bank Statement
- Pre-printed pay stub
- W-2 form
- Current valid homeowners or renters insurance
- First-class mail from a federal, state or county agency
- Change of address confirmation from the United State Postal Service showing prior and current address
- Motor vehicle registration
Documents to Prove Your Social Security Number
- Social Security Card (not laminated)
- Paystub with applicant's name and SSN on it
- W-2 Form
- SSA-1099 form
- Non-SSA 1099 form
PLEASE NOTE: When applying for a REAL ID-compliant driver license or identification card, Coloradans may provide a Social Security Number verbally at the Driver License office. The Social Security Number will be verified through the Social Security Administration to ensure the information is accurate.
